Why visit?
One of the best-known places for a 360-degree view of Istanbul, visited together with the narrow streets of Galata.
Short History
The tower was built in the 14th century, when Galata was governed by the Genoese; it carries Byzantine, Genoese and Ottoman layers. Kültür Envanteri lists it as a museum and watchtower.
About
Galata Tower rises among the steep streets above Karaköy and is easy to pick out from the historic peninsula. Today it is visited as a museum; from the viewing gallery at the top you see the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the historic peninsula.
